User was facing same issue ORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol and later invalid username/password after setting the SQLNET.ALLOWEDLOGONVERSION=8.Interesting thing was when passing the password in UPPERCASE, user was able to connect.I fired alter user username password 'samepassword' account unlock and things started working.The only things which I find relevant from oracle doc is'The server has been configured with SECCASESENSITIVELOGON set to FALSE, so that it can only authenticate users who have a 10G case-insensitive password version.'
